I have always had an interest in essential oils but have never taken the time to really learn about them. I was invited to attend an essential oils class at Family Acupuncture and Wellness Center this morning, sponsored by Dr. Christina Arbogast and I am so glad I went. There are so many uses for essential oils for those of us wishing to avoid chemicals and keep it natural.
Many of the oils mentioned are reminiscent of those mentioned in the bible and have been used since time began for healing and wellness purposes. Remember the three wise men and their gift of Frankincense and Myrrh to the Christ child?
If we look back to ancient times we will see many mentions of the use of oils both in scripture and historical documents.
There wasn’t enough time to learn of all the uses of the oils but the speaker, Nirely Cabrera, did a wonderful job of educating us on some basic uses and I look forward to her next class. Each participant was given a selection of recipes from which they could choose one to make their own take away bottle. I chose the Lavender Dream Mist. You can use this blend to spray on your pillow for a relaxing sleep and I am looking forward to trying that tonight.
The oils can be used to make your own skin care products, body sprays and apparently you can even make cleaning products from them. Some are topical only and some can be consumed. As I am a novice I am finding out there is much more to essential oils than I imagined. There is a lot to learn on this topic and now I have dipped my toe in the water I want to learn more. No chemicals and all natural!
Here is the recipe given to make the Lavender Dream Mist:
4 oz. Glass or plastic spray bottle
2 oz. Witch Hazel
2 oz. Distilled Water
15 Drops of Lavender Oil
It is a light aroma and not overpowering and simple to make. I can’t wait to see what I can make next time.
Thank you Dr. Christina and Nirely Cabrera for a fun and educational session on this wonderful topic.
