My husband likes to listen to the news while he gets ready for work in the mornings. I was listening while busy in the kitchen and it struck me that they are no longer news people. They voice their opinions forcefully, over talk those whom they are interviewing and dig and dig for something bad. If it were not so sad it would be laughable. With all we have going on in the world both NBC and CBS decided the most important news of the morning was; “did Melania Trump plagiarize her speech”. Were there similarities? Of course. I think if you go back through any prospective first lady you will find the highlights are the same. Love of country, desire for a better world for our children and so on. Hopefully Mrs. Trump ignores the ignorance. I watched her speech on PBS last night and thought her to be eloquent and positive. That is just my humble opinion.
The news people have become petty and divisive. My personal preference for news is the world news on PBS. More news, less opinions. How can we expect to mend all our differences and be kind when faced with negativity? We can choose to not listen. If enough people stopped listening to them soon the advertisers would take their money elsewhere. Money talks above all else. I think it is becoming more and more obvious that the news media incites anger and love to hear the sound of their own voice.
They do not have the talent of the great ones like David Frost. I always admired how he could interview someone and with so few words yet get them to open up. He was kind and respectful and there would be long periods of silence while he waited for his subject to respond. For my own sanity and peace of mind I choose not to watch so I will make my donation to PBS and put my ear buds in. Better days are ahead.
